Embodied Storytelling. Artistic Authority. Living Tradition.

Jennifer Madsen approaches education as an extension of performance — grounded in craft, lineage, and embodied storytelling. Jazz, in her view, is not static repertoire but an evolving conversation shaped by mentorship, collaboration, and lived experience.

For decades, she has guided vocalists, songwriters, and emerging artists in developing not only technical skill, but artistic identity and professional resilience.

THE PERFORMATIVE SINGER:

Embodied Voice

Jennifer is a Level III certified practitioner of the Margolis Method, having studied extensively with founder Kari Margolis in New York over a 15-year period.

The Margolis Method is a physically based acting system that trains performers to generate authentic emotional expression through precise physical action. This discipline informs Madsen’s vocal pedagogy at every level. She teaches this discipline through her online course, The Performative Singer.

Rather than separating technique from storytelling, she teaches students to:

• Engage the body as instrument
• Activate physical impulse before sound
• Access emotional truth through movement
• Shape narrative intention with clarity and authority

The result is performance that is not merely vocally accurate — but viscerally compelling.

ACADEMIC & PROFESSIONAL ENGAGEMENT

Jennifer serves as adjunct faculty at Snow College, mentoring jazz vocalists, singer-songwriters, and commercial music students. Her work integrates:

  • Jazz lineage and stylistic nuance
  • Studio preparation and production awareness
  • Repertoire development
  • Professional branding and career navigation
  • Big band interpretation

She is also active with the Jazz Education Network, mentoring collegiate ensembles and supporting national jazz education initiatives.

MENTORSHIP IN PRACTICE

Through Broadway Loft Concerts, Madsen curates performance spaces where established artists share the stage with emerging musicians. These concerts function as living mentorship environments — modeling artistry, professionalism, and collaborative leadership in real time. Her educational philosophy is simple: artistry is transmitted through example.
